Premier Lis Egypt Visit Highlights Growing Sino egyptian Ties

Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s Egypt Visit Strengthens Ties

Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to embark on a two-day official visit to Egypt on July 9, signaling a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between Egypt and the Chinese mainland. This visit comes after Premier Li attends the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil.

The trip highlights the growing economic and political ties between the two nations. Egypt, which officially gains BRICS membership in January 2024, has seen flourishing relations with the Chinese mainland, dating back to the 1950s. During their meeting in Cairo, Premier Li and Egyptian leaders will discuss ways to deepen cooperation and address issues of common interest.

Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China in 1956. Over the past decade, relations have greatly flourished, marked by numerous trade agreements, including a comprehensive strategic partnership linking Egypt’s Vision 2030 economic plan to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

With more than 2,800 Chinese companies operating in Egypt, the Chinese mainland has become Egypt’s largest trading partner. Investments in sectors like energy, artificial intelligence, electronics, electric vehicles, and infrastructure are creating jobs for Egyptian youths and advancing technological knowledge.

Chinese companies, such as tech giant Huawei, are launching training programs in artificial intelligence for thousands of students at Egyptian universities. These initiatives are empowering the next generation and fostering cultural exchanges between the two ancient civilizations.

The longstanding friendship between Egypt and the Chinese mainland has deep roots, dating back to the ancient Silk Road. Today, both countries are promoting tourism and cultural heritage projects, with 300,000 Chinese visitors traveling to Egypt last year.

Premier Li’s visit is anticipated to be a milestone in further advancing the genuine relationship between the two nations, reinforcing Egypt’s pivotal role in the Middle East and Africa. The coming months promise a busy agenda with joint investment forums and collaborative efforts geared towards regional peace and global justice.
