China Ready for Dialogue and Cooperation with the U.S., Says Official

China has expressed its readiness to engage in dialogue, expand areas of cooperation, and manage differences with the United States to promote steady and sustained development in their economic and trade relations. This announcement was made by Wang Shouwen, China’s International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, during a press conference on Friday.

“Based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, China is prepared to work with the U.S.,” Wang stated. He emphasized that while China is open to collaboration, it will firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests throughout the process.

Wang highlighted the critical importance of the relationship between the two nations, noting that their economies are highly complementary. “Maintaining balanced, healthy, and sustainable economic and trade relations benefits not only the people of both countries but also people around the world,” he said, adding that this aligns with global expectations.

Addressing China’s capacity to handle external shocks, Wang pointed to the nation’s resilient and vibrant economy with great potential. He mentioned China’s “dual circulation” development pattern, which focuses on the domestic market as the mainstay while allowing domestic and international markets to reinforce each other.

Wang also commented on trade tariffs, stating that raising tariffs on Chinese goods does not resolve trade deficits. Instead, it leads to higher prices for imported products and inflation, ultimately placing the burden on consumers.
