China Opposes G7s Interference in Sovereignty and Internal Affairs

China Condemns G7 Remarks on Sovereignty and Internal Affairs

Beijing, China — China’s Foreign Ministry has voiced strong opposition to recent statements made by the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers, accusing the group of interfering in the nation’s internal affairs and undermining its sovereignty.

On Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning criticized the G7’s joint communiqué, which called for a “constructive and stable” relationship with China but also raised concerns over issues such as the South China Sea, Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong. The statement urged China to cease supporting Russia’s defense industry and addressed what it termed China’s “overcapacity” in certain sectors.

“If the G7 seeks a constructive and stable relationship with China, it should take concrete actions to practice what it preaches and avoid attacks on China,” Mao Ning said during a press briefing.

Mao emphasized that China maintains a consistent and objective stance on international issues, advocating for mutual respect and equality in global relations. She reiterated China’s position on the conflict in Ukraine, stating that China has always promoted peace talks and has not provided weapons to any parties involved. “We strictly control the export of dual-use items, including civilian drones,” she added, noting that no third party should interfere with China’s normal trade with Russia.

Addressing the G7’s remarks on China’s so-called overcapacity, Mao called the assertions “false” and urged the group to adopt a fair approach to competition. She reaffirmed China’s consistent positions on matters related to the South China Sea, Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong.

“We strongly oppose the G7’s actions that harm China’s sovereignty and interfere in our internal affairs,” Mao stated. “We urge G7 countries to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms of international relations and to manage their own affairs.”

Mao concluded by calling on the G7 to abandon “narrow geopolitical games” and focus on contributing to international unity and cooperation. “China, as a responsible major country, is committed to fairness, inclusivity, and benefiting the world through its development,” she said.
