China and Spain Strengthen Ties During Top Legislator’s Visit

China and Spain are stepping up their friendship, aiming for a brighter future together. Zhao Leji, China’s top legislator and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, visited Spain from Saturday to Wednesday, meeting with key Spanish leaders to strengthen ties.

In Madrid, Zhao met with Spanish King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. They talked about working together on big issues like climate change, boosting trade and investment, and sharing culture and education.

“China wants to deepen our friendship with Spain,” Zhao said, emphasizing mutual respect and the potential to achieve great things together, like advancing electric vehicles and clean energy.

King Felipe VI was enthusiastic about the future. “Next year marks 20 years of our strategic partnership,” he said. “We’re excited to bring new energy to our relationship, especially in areas like climate action and cultural exchange.”

Prime Minister Sanchez welcomed more cooperation. “We’re eager to work with China on trade, electric vehicles, agriculture, culture, and sports,” he said. “Spain will also help strengthen EU-China relations.”

Zhao also met with leaders of Spain’s Senate and Congress of Deputies, emphasizing the importance of learning from each other to make better laws and policies.

In Barcelona, Zhao met with the regional government leader and visited a joint venture between Chinese carmaker Chery and Spanish company Ebro. He highlighted hopes for more local partnerships and promoting green development.

This visit shows how China and Spain are coming together to create opportunities, tackle global challenges, and build a prosperous future.
