China and Nepal Pledge to Boost Cooperation on All Fronts

In a significant move to strengthen regional ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Nepalese counterpart, Arzu Rana Deuba, in Chengdu, China, on November 29, 2024. The two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation across various sectors, marking a new chapter in China-Nepal relations.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the progress made under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He highlighted joint efforts in advancing the trans-Himalayan multi-dimensional connectivity network, aiming to boost infrastructure and connectivity between the two countries.

“China is ready to work with Nepal to embrace new prospects for the development of our bilateral relations,” Wang said, noting that next year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Nepalese Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to the one-China policy, stating that Nepal will not allow any activities on its soil that could harm China’s interests. “We appreciate the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind and are willing to participate in the Global Development Initiative,” she added.

The meeting signifies a mutual desire to deepen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, trade, and cultural exchanges, fostering stronger bonds between the neighboring countries.
