Peng Liyuan, the World Health Organization’s Goodwill Ambassador for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, recently joined students at the University of Science and Technology Beijing to promote AIDS awareness ahead of World AIDS Day 2024.
During the event, she presented a flag to a student representative of AIDS prevention volunteers, encouraging them to continue their vital work in spreading knowledge about HIV/AIDS on campus. The campaign highlighted the progress and achievements of China’s national AIDS prevention efforts, showcasing successes from recent years.
Through interactive activities like classroom discussions, theatrical performances, and interviews, participants learned about AIDS prevention and the importance of volunteer programs in universities. Peng emphasized the crucial role of young people in combating AIDS, urging students to contribute their energy and enthusiasm to the cause.
Before the event, Peng visited an exhibition celebrating a decade of HIV/AIDS prevention awareness in universities across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. She engaged with students, medical staff, and volunteers, learning about their efforts and encouraging continued collaboration to keep campuses safe from AIDS.
The event was attended by representatives from international organizations, Red Ribbon health ambassadors, HIV/AIDS prevention experts, and university student volunteers, highlighting the collective effort in the fight against AIDS.
