China has called on Paraguay to develop a clear and comprehensive understanding of the one-China principle. This message was delivered by Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, during a regular press briefing on Monday.
Addressing recent comments made by Paraguay’s foreign minister concerning Taiwan, Lin emphasized that the one-China principle is a widely accepted consensus in the international community. “It’s a fundamental norm governing international relations and serves as the political foundation for China’s bilateral relationships,” he stated.
Lin underlined the importance of this principle to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, asserting that there is no room for compromise or concessions. He urged Paraguay to align itself with the majority of nations that recognize the one-China principle and to make choices that serve the long-term interests of its people.
“We hope Paraguay will stand on the side of international fairness and justice,” Lin added, encouraging the South American nation to consider the broader implications of its stance on the Taiwan question.
