China Denounces U.S. Arms Sales to Taiwan

Beijing, China — China’s Ministry of National Defense has strongly condemned the latest approval of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, calling the actions “notorious” and a violation of international agreements.

Defense spokesperson Wu Qian expressed deep dissatisfaction during a press briefing on Monday, stating that the United States is interfering in China’s domestic affairs and undermining peace in the region. “Through these arms sales, the United States interferes in domestic affairs and undermines peace in the name of so-called safeguarding peace and promoting stability, which has long been obvious to the international community,” Wu remarked.

The U.S. recently announced the approval of a $385 million arms package to Taiwan, a move that has escalated tensions between the two nations. Wu emphasized that this action severely violates the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués. He noted that it damages China’s sovereignty and security interests, as well as the relations between the two countries and their militaries.

Wu also criticized Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party authorities, accusing them of seeking independence with U.S. support at the expense of the well-being of Taiwan’s people. “Such attempts will only lead to their own demise,” he warned.

Highlighting the importance of the Taiwan question as the foundation of China-U.S. relations, Wu urged the United States to halt all arms sales to Taiwan. He called on the U.S. to preserve the overall relationship between the two countries and their military establishments.

Looking ahead, Wu stated that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army will continue to strengthen its military training and preparations. “We will resolutely thwart any ‘Taiwan secessionists’ and external interference,” he asserted.

The international community watches closely as developments unfold, aware of the significant impact these tensions could have on regional stability and global affairs.
