In a bid to strengthen connections between Mainland China and Taiwan, officials gathered in Beijing on Tuesday for a meeting focused on boosting economic and cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Straits. The event saw participation from representatives of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and officials from Fujian Province.
Earlier in October, during a visit to Fujian, President Xi Jinping called for greater efforts to pioneer new pathways for integrated development between the two sides. His remarks have set clearer goals for enhancing cross-Strait relationships.
At the meeting, Song Tao, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, emphasized the importance of carrying out President Xi’s directives. He encouraged steps to promote high-quality development in a demonstration zone dedicated to cross-Strait integration, advance peaceful relations, and support the goal of national reunification.
Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the NDRC, highlighted the need to support Fujian Province in exploring innovative approaches for integration. He stressed implementing policies to build the demonstration zone and achieving new milestones in cross-Strait collaboration.
Luo Dongchuan, deputy secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, and Wang Yongli, vice governor of Fujian, provided updates on the progress of the demonstration zone. They expressed Fujian’s ambition to create a model for social, economic, and emotional integration with Taiwan, aiming to establish a comprehensive pattern of development and contribute to national reunification.
This meeting marks a significant step towards fostering closer ties and mutual understanding between Mainland China and Taiwan, focusing on peaceful development and shared prosperity.
