China and Cambodia Pledge to Strengthen ‘Iron-Clad’ Friendship

Beijing, China — China’s President Xi Jinping and Cambodia’s Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen met in Beijing on Tuesday, committing to deepen the longstanding friendship between their nations.

President Xi emphasized the importance China places on its relationship with Cambodia, highlighting a mutual desire to build a high-quality community with a shared future. He called for both countries to uphold mutual support and strengthen their “iron-clad” friendship.

“China will continue to support Cambodia in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and development interests,” Xi stated. He also expressed China’s readiness to assist Cambodia in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions.

The leaders discussed enhancing cooperation through the “Diamond Hexagon” framework and advancing projects like the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor.” They aim to align these initiatives with Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative for mutual benefit.

Hun Sen expressed gratitude for China’s support in Cambodia’s political, economic, and social development. “China is Cambodia’s most trusted friend,” he said, noting that this friendship is a consensus within the Cambodian People’s Party and will remain strong through future leadership transitions.

Cambodia is committed to strengthening exchanges with China, deepening political trust, and enhancing cooperation across various fields, including youth and cultural exchanges. Both nations aspire to be forces for peace, development, and progress in the world.
