China and Nauru Strengthen Ties as Top Leaders Meet in Beijing

In a significant move to bolster international friendships, China’s top political advisor Wang Huning met with Marcus Stephen, the Speaker of Nauru’s Parliament, in Beijing on Tuesday. This meeting marks a new chapter in the renewed diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Wang Huning, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, highlighted that resuming ties with Nauru showcases the global consensus on the one-China principle. He emphasized that this alignment reflects the prevailing trends of our times.

The leaders of China and Nauru reached an important agreement in March, setting a strategic direction for enhancing bilateral relations and practical cooperation. Wang expressed China’s readiness to work with Nauru to implement this vision and foster the development of their relationship. He also stressed that the CPPCC is committed to contributing to this progress.

Marcus Stephen reaffirmed Nauru’s firm support for the one-China principle and expressed gratitude for China’s assistance. He stated, “Nauru is eager to strengthen exchanges, learn from each other, and collaborate closely with China. We aim to deepen the friendship between our peoples and promote sustained development in our bilateral relations.”
