A delegation of 40 students and teachers from seven universities in mainland China has just concluded a nine-day visit to Taiwan, fostering new friendships and cultural understanding across the Taiwan Strait.
Setting off on November 27, the group explored Taiwan’s universities, historical sites, scenic spots, and various sports, science, technology, and cultural venues. Throughout their journey, they engaged widely with locals, experiencing the island’s unique charm and the deep connections between people on both sides.
“We felt an incredible rapport with our compatriots here,” said Qiu Yong, leader of the delegation and secretary of the Communist Party of China Tsinghua University Committee, during a farewell dinner on Wednesday. “It’s essential for young people from both sides of the Strait to learn from each other and strengthen our bonds through shared cultural traditions.”
Qiu emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for youth exchanges and enhancing educational cooperation between the mainland and Taiwan. “In the journey towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, none of us can be absent,” he remarked.
Hsiao Hsu-tsen, executive director of the Ma Ying-jeou Culture and Education Foundation, which hosted the delegation, saw them off at the airport. He noted the warm welcome the mainland students and teachers received wherever they went. “Youth exchanges are the foundation of future cross-Strait relations,” Hsiao said. “We will continue to promote and support these meaningful interactions.”
