Both Sides of Taiwan Straits Belong to One China Spokesperson

China Reaffirms ‘One China’ Amid Cyberbullying Controversy

A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday condemned the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan for allegedly colluding with certain media outlets and online groups to launch cyberbullying attacks against mainland students and teachers. The delegation from Chinese mainland universities had extended congratulations to the “Chinese Taipei team,” leading to a wave of online harassment.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated at a media briefing that “the world is home to only one China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.” She emphasized that while complete reunification has yet to be achieved, the fact that both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to one China remains unchanged. Zhu added that the use of the term “Chinese Taipei team” is entirely appropriate.

“The foundation of cross-Straits relations lies in the people, and the driving force stems from their aspirations,” Zhu said. She highlighted that exchanges and cooperation benefit people on both sides and expressed commitment to promoting initiatives that enhance kinship, well-being, and mutual understanding.

“We sternly warn the DPP authorities that peace, development, exchange, and cooperation are the shared aspirations of people across the Straits,” the spokesperson added. “Any attempts to obstruct or undermine cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation are doomed to fail.”
