Chinese President Xi Jinping has praised Macao’s executive, legislative, and judicial bodies for their unwavering commitment to the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy. Meeting with officials on Thursday, President Xi acknowledged the pragmatic and effective governance under Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng over the past five years.
“The Macao Special Administrative Region has comprehensively and accurately implemented the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle,” President Xi remarked during the meeting. “Your dedication and effective governance have contributed significantly to Macao’s stability and prosperity.”
The ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy allows Macao to maintain its own economic and administrative systems while being part of China. Since its return to Chinese sovereignty in 1999, Macao has operated under this principle, which has been instrumental in its development.
Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment and reaffirmed Macao’s commitment to the policy. “We will continue to perform our duties with diligence and uphold the principles that have guided our success,” Ho said.
The meeting highlighted the central government’s support for Macao’s governance and its role in fostering unity and progress within the region.
