Xi Jinping Joins Macao’s 25th Return Anniversary Gala

Chinese President Xi Jinping joined the people of Macao on Thursday evening to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the city’s return to China. The grand gala, held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, was a colorful showcase of music, dance, and cultural pride.

Upon arriving with his wife, Peng Liyuan, President Xi received a warm welcome and a standing ovation from the audience. They were accompanied by Macao’s Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, and his wife, Cheng Soo Ching.

The performances highlighted Macao’s unique blend of Chinese and Portuguese heritage, reflecting its vibrant history and culture. The evening culminated with President Xi and attendees joining voices to sing “Ode to the Motherland,” a heartfelt tribute wishing prosperity for China and a bright future for Macao.

President Xi’s visit also includes attending the inauguration of Macao’s sixth-term government and an inspection tour of the Special Administrative Region (SAR). The 25th anniversary is a significant milestone since Macao’s return from Portuguese administration to China in 1999 under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle.

The celebrations underscore the strong connections and progress achieved over the past quarter-century, symbolizing hope and unity for the years ahead.
