Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee on Thursday, calling for Hong Kong and Macao to strive for greater accomplishments as the practice of “One Country, Two Systems” enters a new stage.
During their meeting in Macao, where Lee was attending the 25th anniversary celebrations of Macao’s return to China, Xi emphasized the importance of the two Special Administrative Regions (SARs) learning from each other. He urged them to strengthen exchanges and cooperation to create a brighter future together.
Xi stated that Hong Kong and Macao should seize the opportunities presented by the new era, fostering development and enhancing the well-being of their citizens.
John Lee expressed his commitment to leading Hong Kong in boosting the economy, pursuing development, and improving people’s livelihoods. He highlighted the active participation in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a key focus. Lee also stressed the importance of better integrating Hong Kong into the overall development of the country.
The meeting signifies a renewed push for collaboration and growth under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, aiming to enhance prosperity and stability in both Hong Kong and Macao.
