China and Italy Strengthen Ties with New Business Report Launch

Chinese and Italian Leaders Commit to Deeper Collaboration at Milan Event

Chinese and Italian officials, alongside business leaders, have pledged to strengthen their partnership during the launch of the 2024 Development Report on Chinese Enterprises in Italy. The event took place on Friday in Milan, the capital of the Lombardy region.

Yan Dong, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Italy (CCCIT), highlighted the significant contributions of Chinese businesses to Italy’s economy. Despite challenges like protectionist policies and regulatory hurdles, Chinese enterprises have boosted investment, taxation, and employment in Italy.

“We hope this report will enhance mutual understanding and foster deeper bilateral cooperation,” Yan said. The report, based on surveys from 92 member companies, is the first comprehensive study of Chinese businesses in Italy. It examines their operations, contributions, and the challenges they face.

Chinese Consul General in Milan, Liu Kan, praised the report as a valuable resource for policymakers and business leaders. “China stands ready to share its development opportunities with Italy and the world,” Liu emphasized, reaffirming China’s commitment to peaceful development and mutual prosperity.

Representatives from the Italian government echoed these sentiments. Andrea Tabella, from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, expressed the ministry’s commitment to stronger collaboration with the CCCIT. He noted that the report would serve as a helpful guide for Chinese enterprises operating in Italy.

Raffaele Cattaneo, secretary general of the Lombardy region, underscored the region’s strategic importance. He noted that Lombardy attracts over 50% of Chinese investments in Italy, and more than 60% of surveyed companies plan to expand their investments in the region over the next three years.

Founded in 2021, the CCCIT represents over 120 Chinese enterprises in Italy, spanning finance, telecommunications, technology, and manufacturing sectors. The launch event attracted around 150 participants, including representatives from Chinese and Italian businesses, trade associations, and government institutions.
