China Vows to Explore one Country Two Systems Solution for Taiwan

China Reaffirms ‘One Country, Two Systems’ for Taiwan

China is renewing its push for peaceful reunification with Taiwan through the “One Country, Two Systems” model, promising to respect the island’s unique characteristics.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized the mainland’s commitment to considering Taiwan’s realities and the views of its people. “We will actively explore solutions that advance peaceful reunification,” Chen said.

The “One Country, Two Systems” framework, which has been applied in Hong Kong and Macau, allows regions to maintain their own economic and administrative systems while being part of China. Chen expressed hope that the people of Taiwan would develop a better understanding of this model.

He highlighted the success of Macau, which marks the 25th anniversary of its return to China this year. “The achievements of Macau prove that ‘One Country, Two Systems’ has distinctive strengths and vitality,” Chen noted. “It is feasible, effective, and well-received by the people.”
