Zhao Leji Urges People’s Congresses to Boost China’s Modernization

China’s top legislator, Zhao Leji, has called on the nation’s people’s congresses to play a more active role in advancing China’s modernization efforts. Speaking at a lawmakers’ symposium on Tuesday, Zhao emphasized the importance of legislative bodies in shaping the country’s future.

Zhao, who serves as chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee and is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the progress made by the NPC Standing Committee this year. He noted that their work has significantly contributed to achieving economic and social development goals.

“The people’s congresses must uphold and develop whole-process people’s democracy,” Zhao stated. “We should base all our work on the will of the people.”

He urged lawmakers to conduct in-depth investigations and research with a realistic and pragmatic approach. Zhao stressed the need for careful planning and coordinated efforts to ensure that initiatives are carried out effectively and efficiently.

Looking ahead, Zhao underscored the importance of thorough preparations for the upcoming third annual session of the 14th NPC. He encouraged all legislative bodies to work diligently towards the common goal of national advancement.
