Chinese Defense Ministry Warns Taiwan on U.S. Arms Purchases
The Chinese Defense Ministry has issued a strong warning to Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities about relying on U.S. weaponry. Spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang stated that U.S. arms won’t be a “magic straw” to save those seeking independence, calling them “easy targets on the battlefield.”
At a regular press conference on Thursday, Zhang responded to reports that Taiwan has received its first batch of M1A2T battle tanks purchased from the United States. He cautioned that attempts to seek independence through U.S. support are doomed to fail, and that resisting reunification by force leads nowhere.
Zhang urged the U.S. to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, honoring its commitment to not support “Taiwan independence.” He called on the U.S. to stop arming Taiwan and to halt actions that undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.
The spokesperson emphasized that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) will enhance its combat readiness and capabilities to defend national sovereignty. “We will firmly smash any ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist plots and foreign interference,” Zhang declared.
