China is gearing up to enhance its role as the rotating president of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), unveiling plans to accelerate cooperation among member nations. At a recent press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced that China is committed to taking practical steps to strengthen ties in politics, security, economy, and cultural exchanges.
The newly released emblem for China’s presidency tenure in 2024-2025 features the slogan “Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the move” displayed in Chinese, Russian, and English. The emphasis on “action” in the slogan highlights China’s dedication to making tangible progress within the SCO framework.
“China will be more proactive in improving the SCO mechanism, building a community with a shared future, and opening up new space for win-win cooperation,” said Mao Ning. She emphasized that China is advancing its presidency work at a faster pace, preparing to host a summit focused on friendship, solidarity, and fruitful outcomes, along with more than 40 institutionalized meetings.
In addition to political and economic forums, China plans to host major events such as the SCO political parties forum, a forum on poverty reduction, people-to-people exchanges, and friendship cities. An international investment and trade expo is also on the agenda.
For young people and cultural enthusiasts, China is organizing flagship events including a film festival, TV festival, art festival, youth innovation and entrepreneurship competition, and a Chinese calligraphy competition. These initiatives aim to foster deeper connections among the youth of SCO member countries and promote cultural understanding.
Since assuming the rotating presidency, China has already hosted events like the Green Development Forum and the 42nd meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, demonstrating its commitment to leading the SCO with active engagement.
