China Welcomes 2024 with Call for Global Unity

Beijing’s night was abuzz as China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted the 2024 New Year reception at the Beijing Performing Arts Center on Friday. The event gathered around 400 guests, including diplomats from across the globe, representatives from international organizations, and Chinese government officials.

Yin Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, was among the notable attendees.

In his address, Wang Yi emphasized China’s commitment to fostering global cooperation. “China’s foreign service has upheld the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind,” he stated. Highlighting the world’s turbulence, he added that China’s diplomatic efforts have brought stability and positive energy.

Wang Yi acknowledged the efforts of diplomatic envoys and international organizations over the past year. “By visiting various parts of China, you’ve built bridges of friendship, strengthening the ties between our peoples,” he said.

Looking ahead, Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with nations worldwide. “Together, let’s overcome divisions, promote friendship, and enhance mutual understanding among cultures,” he urged.

Martin Mpana, dean of the foreign diplomatic corps in China and Cameroon’s ambassador to China, extended New Year wishes on behalf of the diplomatic community. He praised China’s diplomacy for addressing global uncertainties and challenges. “Countries around the world are eager to deepen friendships and enhance cooperation with China to build a community with a shared future for mankind,” Mpana remarked.

As the reception concluded, guests shared hopes for a harmonious and cooperative year ahead, aligning with the evening’s theme of unity and shared destiny.
