Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed readiness to resume negotiations over the conflict in Ukraine but cites a decree by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy banning such talks as a significant obstacle.
\”We have always said this, and I would like to emphasize this once again: we are ready for negotiations on the Ukrainian issue,\” Putin stated on Friday. However, he questioned how discussions could proceed when they have been legally prohibited by Ukraine. \”How can negotiations be resumed now when they have been banned?\” he asked, noting that any talks under Ukraine’s current legal framework would be considered illegitimate.
Putin asserted that as long as Zelenskyy’s decree remains in effect, initiating or concluding meaningful negotiations would be difficult. While preliminary discussions might occur, he believes serious talks face significant barriers due to the ban.
The Russian leader accused Zelenskyy of being \”in no hurry\” to lift the decree and suggested that external influences were at play. Putin urged those supporting Kyiv to pressure the Ukrainian president to remove the prohibition on talks.
