Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on all parties to accelerate the implementation of the two-state solution, urging support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders. Wang made these remarks on Tuesday after chairing a high-level United Nations Security Council meeting on “Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming and Improving Global Governance.”
“Behind the Gaza conflict lies the prolonged delay in resolving the question of Palestine,” Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told reporters. He emphasized that the issue of Palestine remains at the core of Middle East tensions and warned that without the two-state solution, the cycle of violence will continue.
Wang urged all parties in the Middle East to transcend their differences and support the establishment of a Palestinian state. He also called on the United Nations to take action to admit Palestine as a full member state, highlighting the importance of international recognition and support.
“Gaza is the homeland of the Palestinian people and an integral part of Palestinian territory,” Wang stated. “It should not become a victim of international politics.”
He appealed for the continued implementation of the ceasefire agreement and encouraged all concerned parties to engage constructively in follow-up negotiations. Wang stressed that the principle of “the Palestinians governing Palestine” should be upheld in the post-war governance of Gaza, in line with the two-state solution.
“Our ultimate goal is to achieve peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel, as well as long-term peace and stability in the Middle East,” he concluded.
