Mainland Slams Dpps Blocking of Cross straits Academic Exchanges

Mainland Criticizes Taiwan’s Restrictions on Academic Exchanges

A spokesperson for the Chinese mainland has criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan for prohibiting universities on the island from collaborating with renowned science and engineering institutions on the mainland.

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated on Tuesday that the DPP’s actions harm the interests of Taiwan’s universities and expose a narrow-minded and arrogant attitude.

Following previous bans on exchanges between local institutions and three mainland universities, including Jinan University, Taiwan’s educational authorities recently added seven more mainland universities to the prohibited list. These include prestigious institutions such as Beihang University and Beijing Institute of Technology.

“These universities are globally renowned for their achievements across various fields,” Chen said, adding that their contributions have significantly advanced industrial development and technological progress not only in the Chinese mainland but around the world, rather than focusing solely on military technology.

Chen remarked that the DPP authorities have repeatedly extended political interference into cross-strait educational exchanges, demonstrating a mindset of opposing anything related to the mainland. This approach has been widely criticized by the education sector in Taiwan.

“We are willing to share the mainland’s advanced educational resources with students from Taiwan, and our universities always welcome Taiwan compatriots with academic aspirations,” Chen stated.
