from Beijing to South China Sea a 2600 kilometer cloud Classroom

Cloud Classrooms Bridge 2,600 Kilometers Between Beijing and South China Sea

Sansha, south China’s Hainan Province—At Yongxing School, located in China’s southernmost city, distance is no longer a barrier to quality education. Real-time online classes are connecting students with top educators in Beijing, bridging a 2,600-kilometer gap across the South China Sea.

The initiative aligns with this year’s government work report, which emphasizes promoting high-quality, well-balanced development of compulsory education. With flights between Beijing and Yongxing Island taking over four hours, the “cloud classroom” model offers a practical solution to bring premium educational resources to remote areas.

“Since October 2022, we have conducted 155 remote learning sessions,” said Guo Xing, principal of Yongxing School. “We’ve also established collaborative partnerships with educational institutions beyond Hainan to further expand resource access.”

One such educator is Wang Jin, a music teacher from the Experimental Primary School of Beijing Normal University. Teaching via the internet, she brings her expertise directly into the classrooms of Yongxing School.

“In 2019, our school signed a collaborative development agreement with Yongxing School,” Wang Jin shared. “Moving forward, we will deepen cooperation and strengthen exchanges. We will continue to send teachers to Sansha for on-site teaching activities.”

This digital empowerment not only addresses teacher shortages but also fosters professional exchanges between educators. For the students, it turns the vision of educational equity into a tangible reality, allowing them to overcome geographical limitations and share in the benefits of high-quality education.
