Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane in Beijing on Thursday. The two leaders pledged to strengthen their countries’ ties and build a China-Laos community with a shared future.
Wang Yi highlighted that over the past 64 years since establishing diplomatic relations, China and Laos have stood together through challenges, providing mutual support. “Our comprehensive strategic partnership has grown stronger and more resilient,” Wang said.
He emphasized China’s firm support for Laos in strengthening its party leadership and expressed willingness to enhance strategic mutual trust and cooperation. “We are committed to promoting the building of a China-Laos community with a shared future,” Wang added.
Discussing China’s recent “Two Sessions” meetings, which set a GDP growth target of around 5 percent for 2025, Wang invited Laos to seize new opportunities arising from China’s development. “As comrades and brothers, we welcome Laos to join hands with us on the path toward modernization,” he noted.
Thongsavanh congratulated China on the successful conclusion of the Two Sessions and praised China’s rapid development despite a complex global environment. He reaffirmed Laos’s commitment to the one-China policy and expressed readiness to work closely with China to achieve greater progress in building their shared future.
Both ministers agreed to strengthen exchanges at all levels, deepen practical cooperation, and enhance bilateral and multilateral collaboration. They emphasized the importance of jointly safeguarding regional peace, stability, development, and revitalization.
