The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning declared on Monday that the complete reunification of China is inevitable. Speaking at a daily press briefing, Mao emphasized that any attempts to seek \”Taiwan independence\” through foreign support are destined to fail.
Mao was responding to inquiries about the Taiwan authorities’ plan to establish new institutions in certain countries and to use \”Taiwan\” instead of \”Taipei\” in naming these institutions. She underscored that the one-China principle is a universally recognized norm in international relations and forms the political foundation for China’s relations with other countries.
\”The government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China. Taiwan has never been a country. It never was, and never will be,\” Mao stated.
According to Mao, for some time, the authorities in Taiwan have attempted to expand their international presence by establishing new institutions or renaming existing ones under the guise of exchange and cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, science, technology, culture, and education. She accused them of trying to break the international community’s adherence to the one-China principle.
\”China always firmly opposes any form of official exchange between Taiwan authorities and any country that has diplomatic relations with China,\” Mao asserted. She warned that efforts to pursue \”Taiwan independence\” with foreign support would inevitably fail, and reiterated that the complete reunification of the country is certain.
