A recent global poll conducted by CGTN has revealed a growing consensus among international respondents urging nations to unite against U.S. trade bullying. The survey indicates a strong desire for countries to safeguard their legitimate rights and uphold the current international economic and trade order.
The United States, under the pretense of pursuing “equality” and “fairness,” has been imposing tariffs that many perceive as self-serving and detrimental to global interests. China has firmly opposed these actions, emphasizing that development is a universal right, not a privilege reserved for a select few.
According to the poll, a significant 86.9% of respondents believe that nations taking countermeasures against U.S. tariff actions are legitimately defending their own legal interests. Moreover, 89.2% call for more countries to adopt active and proactive stances on trade issues with the U.S., opposing unilateral actions on multilateral platforms such as the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The multilateral trading system, with the WTO at its core, has been instrumental in promoting global trade development and economic growth. In the survey, 82.2% of respondents expect the WTO to play a more active role in resolving trade disputes between the U.S. and other countries. Additionally, 79.6% support nations filing lawsuits against U.S. tariffs through the WTO’s dispute settlement mechanism to protect their legitimate rights.
China highlights that mutual benefit and win-win outcomes in international trade are the aspirations of people worldwide. Economic bullying that shifts burdens onto others is counterproductive and ultimately harms all parties involved. With global challenges like inflation, debt, and geopolitical tensions, cooperation is more crucial than ever.
An overwhelming 87.7% of respondents believe that no country can remain unaffected by such bullying and that unity is essential in confronting these actions. Furthermore, 93.5% state that building a fair and mutually beneficial new international trade order aligns with the interests of all parties. Another 84.9% feel that unilateralism has severely damaged the current global trade order, accelerating changes in the international trade system. Lastly, 85.3% believe that by safeguarding their rights through multilateral mechanisms, countries contribute to establishing a more equitable international economic order.
The CGTN poll was conducted across its English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian social platforms, engaging 5,177 overseas users who shared their perspectives within 24 hours.
