Ukraine Appoints Oleksandr Nechytailo as New Ambassador to China

In a move to strengthen diplomatic ties, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed veteran diplomat Oleksandr Nechytailo as Ukraine’s new ambassador to the Chinese mainland.

Nechytailo, 51, brings years of experience to the role, having previously served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Malaysia from 2016 to 2022. During that time, he was also accredited as ambassador to the Philippines from 2017 to 2022.

A graduate of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev, Nechytailo holds a degree in philology. He specialized in Ukrainian language and literature, as well as Chinese language and literature—a skill set that positions him well for his new post. Fluent in both Chinese and English, Nechytailo is expected to enhance communication and cooperation between Ukraine and the Chinese mainland.

He replaces Pavlo Riabikin, who was appointed as ambassador in April 2023. Nechytailo’s appointment signals Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to foster international relationships amid global challenges.
