Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Oleksandr Nechytailo as Ukraine’s new ambassador to China, according to an official announcement on Monday.
Nechytailo, 51, is a seasoned diplomat with extensive international experience. He previously served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Malaysia from June 2016 to May 2022 and was also accredited as ambassador to the Philippines from September 2017 to May 2022.
A graduate of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev, Nechytailo holds a degree in philology. He specialized in Ukrainian language and literature as well as Chinese language and literature, showcasing his strong connection with China.
Fluent in both Chinese and English, Nechytailo is expected to strengthen ties between Ukraine and China during his tenure. He succeeds Pavlo Riabikin, who was appointed to the position in April 2023.
