Chinese President Xi Jinping and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met on Monday, pledging to work together to oppose hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism.
In a meeting held in Beijing, President Xi praised Vietnam’s achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, highlighting the country’s political stability, impressive reforms, and growing international stature.
Xi emphasized that both China and Vietnam share the historical mission of national rejuvenation and accelerating development. He called for the two nations to deepen their comprehensive strategic cooperation, enhancing modernization efforts to benefit their peoples.
The Chinese leader urged strengthening strategic coordination and consolidating the political foundation for building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future. He called for intensified high-level exchanges and strategic communication to jointly oppose hegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism.
Xi proposed leveraging the geographical advantages of being connected by land and sea, advocating for stronger alignment of development strategies and industrial cooperation. He suggested advancing infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity, and ensuring smooth trade flows.
The two countries should expand collaboration in traditional sectors like trade and investment, as well as in emerging industries such as 5G, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and the digital economy, Xi noted.
He stressed the importance of upholding the multilateral trading system and working together to promote economic globalization that is more open, inclusive, balanced, and beneficial to all.
Xi also called for deepening cultural cooperation and promoting China-Vietnam friendship. He emphasized the significance of celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh described the meeting as a significant event in Vietnam-China relations. He expressed appreciation for China’s development achievements and conveyed Vietnam’s determination to promote a community with a shared future of strategic importance.
Pham Minh Chinh expressed Vietnam’s interest in learning from China’s experiences in governance, self-reliance, and development models. He highlighted the desire to strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, investment, connectivity, science and technology, and finance.
He also underscored the importance of collaboration in international and regional affairs, aiming to maintain strategic focus amidst a complex global landscape and jointly safeguard multilateralism and the international order.
The meeting between the two leaders signifies a commitment to deepening ties and working collaboratively towards mutual prosperity and stability in the region.
