on Trade Talks with Us China Stresses equality and Respect

China Calls for Equality and Respect in U.S. Trade Talks

A spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry reiterated on Wednesday the nation’s openness to dialogue with the United States, emphasizing that any negotiations must be rooted in equality and mutual respect.

“China is open to dialogues, but any dialogue must be based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit. Pressure or coercion in any form will not work on China,” the spokesperson stated during a regular press briefing.

The remarks come as the United States has expressed a desire to engage in trade discussions with China. An upcoming meeting between Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and U.S. Treasury Secretary is set to take place at the request of the U.S. side, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that China will steadfastly safeguard its legitimate interests and uphold international fairness and justice. They highlighted that external pressures cannot alter the fundamental strengths of China’s economy, which include a solid foundation, diverse advantages, strong resilience, and vast potential.

“We are also willing to strengthen solidarity and coordination with the international community to jointly resist unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying. We aim to safeguard the multilateral trading system and defend international fairness and justice,” the spokesperson concluded.
