China’s top diplomat Wang Yi has met with several African foreign ministers to strengthen cooperation and deepen ties between China and African nations. The meetings took place in Changsha, the capital of central China’s Hunan Province, during the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s commitment to mutual support and shared development with African countries. He met with foreign ministers and representatives from Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, and Angola.
Enhancing Partnership with Kenya
During his meeting with Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, Wang Yi expressed China’s willingness to work with Kenya to implement the consensus reached by their heads of state. He highlighted the importance of mutual trust and consolidating the political foundation of China-Kenya relations.
Mudavadi affirmed Kenya’s adherence to the one-China principle and expressed eagerness to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
Deepening Cooperation with Senegal
In talks with Yassine Fall, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Senegal, Wang Yi stated that China is ready to share new development opportunities and support African countries in achieving modernization. He emphasized upholding multilateralism and international fairness.
Fall reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to the one-China principle and expressed hope for strengthened high-level exchanges and increased Chinese investment in Senegal.
Strengthening Ties with Tanzania
Meeting with Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Minister from Tanzania, Wang Yi noted that Tanzania has effectively implemented the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. He expressed China’s appreciation for Tanzania’s support on issues concerning China’s core interests and willingness to rejuvenate the Tanzania-Zambia Railway.
Kombo thanked China for its assistance in Tanzania’s development and affirmed his country’s adherence to the one-China principle and commitment to deepening the friendship between the two nations.
Building Solidarity with Namibia
In discussions with Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia, Wang Yi highlighted the tradition of mutual trust and solidarity. He expressed China’s readiness to align development strategies and support Namibia’s industrialization process.
Ashipala-Musavyi conveyed Namibia’s eagerness to strengthen synergy with China and confidence in achieving fruitful results from the ministerial meeting.
Celebrating 50 Years with Botswana
During his meeting with Phenyo Butale, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Botswana, Wang Yi marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana. He pledged support for Botswana’s independent development path and emphasized expanding market access and cooperation in various sectors.
Butale reiterated Botswana’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and commitment to deepening Belt and Road cooperation.
Enhancing Collaboration with Angola
In talks with Tete Antonio, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Wang Yi assured that China maintains stability in its policy towards Angola without attaching political conditions. He encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Angola and hoped for the protection of their legitimate rights and interests.
Antonio expressed gratitude for the contributions of Chinese enterprises to Angola’s development and infrastructure. He stated Angola’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with China and fulfill its duties as the rotating chair of the African Union.
The meetings underscore China’s commitment to bolstering partnerships with African nations, promoting mutual development, and supporting the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
