Israeli Veteran Urges Peace: ‘Sit with Your Enemy and Find a Solution’

War leaves scars that last generations. Yair Bunzel, an Israeli army veteran from the 1982 Lebanon War, knows this all too well. Reflecting on his experiences, he shares a poignant message: “Every war is brutal, and civilians are always paying the price. Every dead, injured, and mentally or psychologically hurt person causes damage for generations, not just to themselves.”

Bunzel isn’t alone in his sentiments. Two American veterans, one from the Iraq War and another from the Vietnam War, echo his feelings. Together, they believe that war ultimately solves nothing and only leads to the destruction of innocent lives.

Despite the horrors they’ve witnessed, these veterans hold onto hope. Bunzel, in particular, envisions a future where conflicts are resolved through understanding rather than violence. “In the end, you have to shut down the fire,” he insists. “Putting down the fire means you sit with your enemy and you really search for a solution.”

Their collective message is clear: it’s time to prioritize dialogue over aggression. By sharing their stories, they aim to inspire a new generation to seek peaceful resolutions and recognize the true cost of war.
