Chinese Vice President Urges Stronger Security Cooperation at SCO Meeting

Beijing, China — Chinese Vice President Han Zheng has called for enhanced security cooperation among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) during a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday. Addressing heads of foreign delegations at the 20th meeting of the Security Council Secretaries of the SCO Member States, Han emphasized the importance of unity in the face of global uncertainties.

Highlighting the Global Security Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Han noted that the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security has gained widespread recognition and support. “China stands ready to work with other SCO member states to uphold multilateralism for lasting security,” he said.

Han urged member nations to “adhere to the spirit of the rule of law for mutual benefit and win-win results” and to “enhance cooperation and capacity building.” He stressed that the SCO should play a greater role in maintaining security and stability in a world fraught with challenges.

Representatives from the foreign delegations expressed their appreciation for China’s leadership during its rotating presidency of the SCO. They reiterated their commitment to addressing security challenges through joint efforts and strengthening collaboration within the organization.

The SCO, founded in 2001, is a regional alliance that focuses on political, economic, and security cooperation. Its member states include China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
