China is set to become a hub of winter sports action as it prepares to host eight international ice and snow events over three weeks from November 19 to December 8.
The winter festivities kick off with the 2024-25 International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup making its second stop in Yanqing on November 19. Yanqing, one of the venues for the 2022 Winter Olympics alongside Beijing and Zhangjiakou, is no stranger to high-octane winter sports. Chinese athletes Chen Wenhao and Zhao Dan recently showcased their talents by securing fifth-place finishes in the men’s and women’s skeleton races at the World Cup’s opening stop in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Following closely, the 2024 Cup of China, the sixth event of the 2024–25 International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating, takes center stage in Chongqing from November 22-24. Homegrown talent Jin Boyang is poised to lead the Chinese skaters against international competitors.
On November 29, Beijing’s Shougang Park will host the 2024-25 Freeski Big Air World Cup. Simultaneously, the ISU World Cup Speed Skating will electrify the National Speed Skating Oval, affectionately known as the “Ice Ribbon.”
The excitement continues on November 30 with the launch of the 2024-25 International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Snowboard Alpine World Cup in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. Athletes will battle it out in Parallel Slalom and Parallel Giant Slalom races.
As December rolls in, the spotlight shifts to the Skiing Genting Resort Secret Garden in Zhangjiakou, where the 2024-25 Freeski Park & Pipe and Snowboard Park & Pipe events will take place from December 5-8.
Beijing’s Capital Indoor Stadium will host the 2024-25 ISU Short Track World Tour on December 6, bringing together the world’s fastest skaters.
Rounding off the sporting extravaganza, the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup returns to Yanqing on December 7, promising thrilling snowboarding action.
With a lineup like this, winter sports fans have much to look forward to as China transforms into a winter wonderland of international competition.
