Chinese Badminton Players Shine at BWF China Masters
Chinese badminton stars have surged into the finals of three events at the BWF China Masters in Shenzhen, showcasing their dominance on home turf.
In the women’s singles semifinals, Gao Fangjie displayed exceptional skill to defeat Thailand’s Supanida Katethong with a straight-sets victory of 21-16, 21-15. Gao’s comprehensive game overwhelmed her opponent, setting up a thrilling final matchup against South Korea’s top seed, An Se-young, who overcame Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki 21-5, 22-20.
China has already clinched the women’s doubles title, as compatriots Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning will face Li Yijing and Luo Xumin in an all-Chinese final. Liu and Tan, the tournament’s second seeds, powered past Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida 21-12, 21-17. Meanwhile, Li and Luo defeated another Japanese duo, Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto, with scores of 21-16, 21-13.
In mixed doubles, home favorites Fang Yanzhe and Huang Dongping continued their impressive run by defeating Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei 21-18, 21-13. They will contend for the title against another Malaysian pair, Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin.
However, in the men’s singles, China’s Shi Yuqi fell to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, who secured a 21-17, 21-16 victory. Christie will face Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in the final after Antonsen edged out compatriot Viktor Axelsen in a nail-biting match, 16-21, 21-9, 21-20.
The men’s doubles final will see Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani take on South Korea’s Jin Yong and Seo Seung-jae. The Indonesian pair defeated China’s He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu 21-16, 21-18, while Jin and Seo triumphed over India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty 21-18, 14-21, 21-16.
