Liverpool Dominate Man City 2-0 to Go Nine Points Clear

Liverpool delivered a stunning performance on Sunday, defeating Manchester City 2-0 at Anfield. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah secured the victory, extending Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points.

The atmosphere was electric as Liverpool capitalized on their midweek Champions League win over Real Madrid. The Reds started strong, with several chances in the first half, including two powerful headers from Virgil van Dijk, one of which struck the crossbar.

The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a sublime long pass to Mohamed Salah on the right wing. Salah’s low cross evaded Manchester City’s goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, allowing Gakpo to tap in at the back post.

Manchester City struggled to find their rhythm, extending their winless streak to seven games. The match marked City’s first four-game losing streak in the Premier League since 2008, dropping them to fifth place in the standings.

Salah doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 78th minute from the penalty spot after Luis Diaz was fouled in the box. “It’s very special and I don’t take it for granted,” Salah said. “It’s always special to score at Anfield and win games.”

Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool has shown remarkable form, winning 18 out of 20 games. They are also leading their Champions League group with a flawless record. With 34 points from 13 games, Liverpool sits comfortably at the top of the Premier League, nine points ahead of both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Liverpool dominated the match with 18 shots, seven on target, while Manchester City managed only two shots on target. City’s star striker Erling Haaland was largely absent from the action, reflecting his team’s struggles.

The victory reinforces Liverpool’s position as the team to beat this season, showcasing their attacking prowess and defensive solidity. Fans are eagerly anticipating the rest of the season as the Reds continue their quest for Premier League glory.
