China’s Sun Long Sprints to Gold in Men’s 500m at Short Track World Tour
At the 2024/25 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Tour on Saturday, China’s Sun Long blazed to victory in the men’s 500m, clocking an impressive 40.155 seconds. Sun edged out Canada’s Steven Dubois, while fellow Chinese skater Liu Shaoang secured third place.
Adding to his triumph, Sun also claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 1,500m final. South Korea’s Park Ji-won took gold in that event with a time of 2:16.776, followed by William Dandjinou of Canada.
“I tried my best to stay focused during each run and keep improving my performance,” Sun said after his win. “The gold belongs to our whole team. Despite the ups and downs, our team will get better and better.”
In the women’s events, Canada’s Danaé Blais captured the 1,000m gold with a time of 1:29.678. The Canadian team also shone in the women’s 3,000m relay, winning with a time of 4:10.948.
On Friday, Canada set a new world record in the 2,000m mixed team relay during the quarterfinals. However, they missed out on the final A after finishing fourth in their semifinal group on Saturday.
The excitement continues on Sunday, the final day of the three-day event, with five more gold medals up for grabs. Competitions include the men’s 1,000m, women’s 500m, women’s 1,500m, mixed team relay, and men’s 5,000m relay.
