ISU President Kim Celebrates Launch of Short Track World Tour in Beijing

International Skating Union (ISU) President Kim Jae-youl expressed his excitement over the launch of the newly revamped ISU Short Track World Tour during an exclusive event in Beijing. The season kicked off with a fresh format, introducing new team identities and racing suits adorned with unique mascots that reflect the national symbols and spirit of each team.

“There are many changes, but what’s exciting is that we’ve introduced the Team Crystal Globe points this season,” Kim shared. As the first ISU president from outside Europe since the organization’s establishment in 1892, he emphasized the significance of this development. “We had the Crystal Globe for individual winners, rewarding the top skater who earned the most points throughout the season. Now, with team points, it’s motivating skaters even more and fostering closer bonds and teamwork among them. This is one of the exciting changes about the World Tour.”

To commemorate the launch at the iconic Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing, the ISU hosted an exclusive backstage tour, offering a rare glimpse into areas typically reserved for skaters and officials. Kim praised China’s ability to host such prestigious events, highlighting the effective use of Olympic legacy venues.

“China has used the legacy of the Olympics very effectively. For example, we had our Short Track World Tour this weekend at the Capital Indoor Stadium. Last weekend was the Speed Skating World Cup at the Ice Ribbon, and that competition went very well,” he noted. “We had two track records and 20 personal bests at the Ice Ribbon, which is amazing and a testament to the quality of the ice. Here at the Capital Indoor Stadium, we set a world record yesterday in the mixed relay. The venues are fantastic, and everything is running smoothly thanks to the excellent organization, staff, and volunteers. We are always happy to be back in China for our events.”

As the world’s top short track skaters gear up to return to Beijing for the World Championships from March 14th to 16th, anticipation is building. They have their sights set not only on claiming world titles but also on preparing for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
