Noe Ponti Smashes World Record in Men’s 50m Butterfly

In a thrilling race at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25-meter) in Budapest, Switzerland’s Noe Ponti soared to gold in the men’s 50-meter butterfly, setting a new world record of 21.32 seconds. Ponti shaved 0.09 seconds off his own previous record of 21.43 seconds, set just a day earlier in the semifinals.

“It’s an incredible feeling to break the world record twice in such a short span,” Ponti said after his victory. “I couldn’t have asked for a better performance.”

Canada’s Ilya Kharun secured silver with a time of 21.67 seconds, closely followed by Nyls Korstanje of the Netherlands, who took bronze in 21.68 seconds.

Championship Records Fall Across Events

The day was marked by outstanding performances, with multiple athletes breaking championship records. In the women’s 100-meter backstroke, Regan Smith of the United States clinched gold in 54.55 seconds, surpassing the previous record held by her teammate Katharine Berkoff.

Australia’s Lani Pallister dominated the women’s 800-meter freestyle, touching the wall at 8:01.95 to set a new championship record. She outpaced Germany’s Isabel Gose and the USA’s Katie Grimes, who finished second and third respectively.

Gretchen Walsh of the U.S. set a new championship record in the women’s 100-meter freestyle semifinals with a time of 50.49 seconds, advancing confidently to the final.

Chinese Swimmers Make Waves

China’s Tang Qianting broke the Asian record in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke semifinals, clocking in at 1:02.37. She now stands just 0.01 seconds shy of the world record held by Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson.

Meanwhile, Qin Haiyang of China advanced to the men’s 100-meter breaststroke final, recording the second-fastest time in the semifinals at 56.04 seconds. He trails only Russia’s Kirill Prigoda, who posted 56.02 seconds.

The World Championships continue to showcase incredible talent, as swimmers from around the globe push the limits and set new standards in the sport.
