Leverkusen, Germany – Bayer Leverkusen continued their impressive run with a commanding 2-0 victory over FC Augsburg on Saturday, climbing to second place in the Bundesliga standings.
The visitors took an early lead when Martin Terrier found the back of the net in the 14th minute, capitalizing on the momentum from their midweek Champions League win over Inter Milan. Leverkusen, managed by Xabi Alonso, showcased their dominance by doubling the lead just before halftime, thanks to a precise low drive from Florian Wirtz in the 40th minute.
This win marks their fourth consecutive league victory and extends their unbeaten streak across all competitions to seven games. Remarkably, they have remained undefeated in their last 24 Bundesliga away matches, a record surpassed only by Bayern Munich.
The victory propels Leverkusen to 29 points, narrowing the gap to four points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Bayern suffered their first league defeat of the season, falling 2-1 to Mainz 05 earlier on Saturday.
“It’s a great feeling to move up the table,” said coach Xabi Alonso. “The team’s hard work is paying off, but we have to stay focused for the challenges ahead.”
Leverkusen’s next fixture will test their resilience as they continue to chase the top spot in the Bundesliga.
