Italian volleyball giants Numia Vero Volley Milano cruised to a straight-sets victory over Egypt’s Zamalek Sporting Club on Thursday at the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Hangzhou, China.
Milano dominated from the start, winning 25-9, 25-13, 25-18, and concluded Pool A with two wins and one loss.
Star player Paola Egonu, who celebrated her 26th birthday just a day earlier, contributed five points in the first set before taking a well-deserved rest.
French outside hitter Helena Cazaute led the scoring with 13 points, delivering powerful kills and aces that kept Zamalek on the defensive.
With this victory, Milano is guaranteed a spot in the semifinals, as they cannot be overtaken in the pool standings.
Radostina Marinova sealed the match with a decisive spike on match point, closing the third set at 25-18.
