Swiss Olympic Snowboarder Sophie Hediger, 26, Dies in Avalanche Tragedy

Swiss Olympic snowboarder Sophie Hediger, 26, has tragically died after an avalanche at the Arosa resort in Switzerland on Monday. Hediger was a member of Switzerland’s snowboard cross team at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

She competed in both the women’s individual and mixed team snowboard cross events at the Beijing Games. Recently, Hediger celebrated her first two World Cup podium finishes during the 2023-24 season, achieving a personal best with a second-place finish in St. Moritz in January.

Swiss-Ski CEO Walter Reusser expressed his condolences, stating, “We are shocked and our thoughts are with Sophie’s family, to whom we offer our deepest condolences. She lost her life tragically, brutally, and far too soon.”
