Top-ranked American tennis stars Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff took a break from their preparations for the upcoming United Cup to explore Western Australia’s iconic Rottnest Island.
World No. 8 Fritz and World No. 3 Gauff enjoyed the island’s stunning scenery, strolling around the picturesque Basin and snapping selfies with the native quokkas—small marsupials known for their friendly smiles. The duo also sampled the island’s famous “Cray Dog,” a lobster roll that’s a local favorite.
Fritz, who was part of Team USA’s championship victory at the inaugural United Cup earlier this year, is returning to defend the title. Gauff, fresh from her maiden Grand Slam win at the 2023 US Open, is set to make her tournament debut at the United Cup.
The United Cup, a mixed-team tennis tournament, will see action kick off this Friday in Perth and Saturday in Sydney. Both cities will host group play and knockout quarterfinals, with the semifinals and final taking place exclusively in Sydney from January 4 to 5.
Team USA is gearing up for their first match against Canada. Fritz and Gauff will lead the American contingent as they aim to secure back-to-back titles for the United States.
