Polish tennis sensation Iga Swiatek has spoken out about her recent doping suspension as she prepares to lead Poland at the United Cup in Sydney. The World No. 2 served a one-month suspension after testing positive for a banned substance in August, which she attributed to a contaminated dose of melatonin.
“I’m not expecting an appeal, but I have no influence on what’s going to happen,” Swiatek said regarding a potential appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency. “From the process that I went through, and how they treated me from the beginning, it seemed fair to me. I managed to give the source pretty quickly.”
The International Tennis Integrity Agency accepted her explanation, allowing her to return to competition. Swiatek is now focused on the season-opening mixed team event, where Poland will face the Czech Republic and Norway in Group B.
“It’s over now,” she added. “In my opinion, it was a fair process, and I trust the ITIA to treat every player the same way and fairly.”
Fans are eagerly awaiting Swiatek’s return to the court as she leads her nation in the United Cup, marking an exciting start to the tennis season.
