In an exhilarating display of skill and teamwork, Shandong Luneng and Shandong Weiqiao clinched the women’s and men’s team titles, respectively, at the China Table Tennis Super League finals on Wednesday.
In the women’s final, Shandong Luneng faced off against Shenzhen University in a thrilling match that went down to the wire. Despite Olympic champion Sun Yingsha securing two points for Shenzhen, Shandong Luneng emerged victorious with a 3-2 win. Key players Chen Xingtong and Qian Tianyi were instrumental in the victory, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards in the singles and doubles events, respectively.
The duo of Chen and Qian overcame a first-game deficit to defeat Qin Yuxuan and Kuai Man, setting the tone for the match. While Sun Yingsha’s exceptional performance leveled the score by defeating her Olympic teammate Wang Manyu, Shandong Luneng regained the lead with Chen’s win over Kuai Man. Sun continued to fight back for Shenzhen, but in the decisive match, Wang Manyu triumphed over Qin Yuxuan, sealing the championship for Shandong Luneng.
“Both teams went all out,” said Wang Manyu after the match. “I’m proud to have won the deciding match.”
On the men’s side, Shandong Weiqiao dominated Huangshi Base with a convincing 3-0 victory. The team effort was highlighted by the doubles pair Lin Yun-Ju and Liang Jingkun, who narrowly defeated Xiang Peng and Xue Fei in a full-game thriller. Olympic champion Wang Chuqin extended the lead by overcoming Lin Shidong, and Liang Jingkun secured the title with a 3-1 win over Xue Fei.
Lin Shidong received the singles MVP award for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament, while Lin Gaoyuan of Shantou Mingrun was honored as the doubles MVP.
