Chinese rising tennis star Shang Juncheng has secured a spot in the semifinals of the ATP Hong Kong Open after defeating Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan in a gripping three-set match on Friday.

The 19-year-old Shang faced a tough start as Marozsan, 25, dominated the first set 6-1. Marozsan came into the match with confidence after stunning Russian top seed Andrey Rublev in his previous round.

However, Shang demonstrated resilience and skill, turning the tide in the second set. Showcasing his speed and precision, Shang sliced a sharp winner to break Marozsan’s serve, ultimately taking the second set 6-3.

In the decisive third set, Shang maintained his momentum. Leading once again, he closed out the match 6-4 when Marozsan’s forehand sailed out of bounds.

This victory marks another milestone for Shang, who became the first Chinese teenager to break into the Top 100 in May. Now ranked world No. 50, his performance at the Hong Kong Open continues to highlight his rapid rise in the tennis world.

“I’m thrilled with the win,” Shang said after the match. “I just focused on staying aggressive and playing my game.”

Next up, Shang will face Japanese wildcard Kei Nishikori, who advanced by defeating Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie.

The anticipation builds as Shang aims to continue his impressive run and secure a place in the final.
