Kazakhstani speed skater Abzal Azhgaliyev has shared his excitement after contributing to his country’s silver medal victory in the mixed 2,000-meter relay at the Asian Winter Games.
The 32-year-old, a three-time Winter Olympian in short track speed skating, reflected on his team’s achievement. “Winning silver is a proud moment for us. We’ve worked hard, and it’s rewarding to see our efforts pay off,” Azhgaliyev said.
Azhgaliyev, who had the honor of serving as Kazakhstan’s flag-bearer at both the 2018 PyeongChang and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, also discussed his goals for the final competition day. “We’re aiming to give our best performance. The competition is tough, but we are motivated to excel,” he shared.
He offered insights into the opening ceremony held on Friday. “The ceremony was spectacular. It was inspiring to see athletes from across Asia come together to celebrate sportsmanship,” Azhgaliyev remarked.
As the Asian Winter Games continue, Azhgaliyev remains focused on his performance and hopes to inspire young athletes back home. “I hope our success encourages young people in Kazakhstan to pursue their dreams in sports,” he concluded.
